Welcome to the Happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. There's a sad and perhaps even dark

0:13.8

truth about being human. Sometimes bad things do happen to good people.

0:21.6

We all know these stories.

0:23.6

It may be a story you're living with right now.

0:26.6

Not far from my home a few years ago, there was a couple who had three children sitting in their

0:32.6

back seat of their car, and they had gotten off the freeway, and they were waiting for the

0:36.6

light to change so they could get onto their street that they were heading towards.

0:40.5

Well, as they were sitting still, waiting for the light to change, a semi-truck couldn't stop and plowed into them, and ended up killing all three of their children.

1:21.0

1:30.3

so hard for reasons why it's happening. Did I do something to cause it? Isn't my fault. And yes,

1:37.7

sometimes we make choices that have negative consequences, but sometimes we are just victims of negative events. And it doesn't do us any good

1:47.8

to blame ourselves. But what we are responsible for when these dark nights come is how we choose

1:55.9

to handle them. That's what we're responsible for. At the time of this recording, there's been two terrifically horrible hurricanes that have gone

2:05.9

through Florida and the southern states of America, and they have destroyed people's lives,

2:12.2

they have destroyed people's homes.

2:14.6

And it's incredibly tragic.

2:16.9

But are any of them responsible for the hurricane? Of course not.
