Welcome to the Hunt Back Country podcast. This is episode number 506. And in today's episode, we speak with Luke, who is a listener of the show

and has a unique perspective on hunting elk. He's a newer elk hunter, but what makes it

extra unique is that he lives in close proximity to the place he hunts. And so he spent

this last fall kind of going from zero to

immersing himself and a lot of Elkanian opportunity as he had dozens of days to spend in the field.

That only did he spend a lot of time in September's archery season and is able to speak to the differences he saw kind of

over the course of September as it relates to elk activity, movement, calling, and more. But he also

had a chance to go on a rifle elk hunt with a friend later in the season. So I wanted to speak

with Luke and just kind of pull some of his takeaways, not only from

a beginner perspective, but more so having this opportunity to spend so much time in the field

and know what he learned from that amount of time. But as well here, there's also limitations to the

way that he was able to spend his time in the field in the sense that he

didn't necessarily have large chunks of time. He had a lot of smaller trips, and we talked about

kind of the disadvantages of that and maybe some of these strategies that he can implement to
