Summary

The Lakers closed out 2023 with back-to-back losses vs. the Wolves and Pelicans that dropped them back down to .500 on the season. Pete and Darius discuss the nature of those games, but zoom out to take a bigger picture look at the team's struggles on offense, the structure (or lack thereof) the team plays with on both sides of the ball, how that lack of structure impacts the role players, and much more.

What do you think about the Laker team now?

0:03.4

You follow the box scores of the games every day?

0:06.0

Just the Lakers.

0:07.4

You're kidding.

0:08.6

That is really a compliment.

0:12.8

I was pleased to see you smile at the top bar show

0:15.5

because once the game starts, you have a game face.

0:17.8

You don't smile much out there.

0:20.4

I don't think you have to do things for money anymore. Correct. What's up, Laker fans? Welcome to the Laker Filmroom podcast. I'm Pete, joined by Darius. And happy New Year to everybody. It was not such a happy end to the old year, though, for the Lakers. Lakers go three and eight after the in-season tournament, wrapping up what everybody on the

average basketball team so far with both LeBron and the AD playing very well. And being average

1:00.9

is nowhere near the championship contender status that the Lakers wanted to reach. And so we're

1:05.4

going to talk about that a bit today. And so I leave it to you. The couple of games this weekend

1:09.4

had a tough matchup against Minnesota that we dropped that three by LeBron, man. No need to get into that. We all saw that. And then not a very good game at all against New Orleans. And so, yeah, opening it up to you, my man, Lakers are an average basketball team. And I want to talk about the reasons why.

1:26.5

Really quickly, zooming in just on those two games, I thought the Minnesota game was an admirable game.

1:33.9

LeBron was not healthy.

1:36.1

He was sick, basically, and they were down a couple of rotation guys.

1:40.7

And how are you going to go into the arena of the team that has the top record in the conference and beat them?

1:50.7

And I thought the Lakers put on a very similar effort to the one that they played against the wolves just 10 days previously where AD carried them.

1:58.3

And they just didn't have enough down the stretch.
