Let's kick things off by mentioning that this is officially

episode number 500 of the realignment.

I've been at this since 2019,

and I just want to shadow everyone who's joined me on the journey so far.

The show has obviously gone a bunch of different directions since Sager and I sat down and interviewed

then non-candidate JAD Vance at the National Conservatism.

I'll say that all those different directional changes and thesis reevaluations

have been informed by all of these great conversations to be able to have with a bunch of different folks across the ideological spectrum.

All of these different changes and direction have been informed by what I've learned from doing this project.

So a huge thank you to home with the listeners of the show

who have given me great feedback, positive and negative,

but also the guests who've joined me as well.

Here's to another 500 more. On to today's episode. We're in the middle of

the Democratic National Convention, so I wanted to kick things off with an

episode about the state of the Democratic Party. My return guest is historian Michael Kaysen.

He last came on the show to discuss his last book, What It Took to Win, a history of the Democratic Party.

He's written a bunch of books, but two other relevant books I want to shout out are The Popio's
