Summary

Hey! Hello! Hi! We’re fuckin fifty y’all. In this week’s weird episode we’re talking about some cases involving BIZARRE motives. Which pop-punk princess inspired a man to kill? Are we all in the Matrix? Today’s episode is sponsored by Wondery and the Los Angeles Time’s new show, Detective Trapp. Anaheim investigator Julissa Trapp is not like other detectives. She’s the only woman on the homicide squad, and a skilled chameleon: undercover cop in vice stings, crime-scene commander, patient confidante of killers. A master interrogator, she invokes her personal experience – and deepest griefs -- as a tool to elicit confessions. When a young woman’s body is found at a trash-sorting plant, Trapp learns the murder may be linked to the disappearance of three other women in nearby Santa Ana. Trapp embarks on a dark journey that brings her face to face with a man who takes “a little piece of her soul.”

Hello and welcome back to Cult Leader. I'm your Cult Leader Spencer Henry and tonight we're going off the fucking rails for the 50th episode you guys. We're trying out something different. Don't worry. It's pretty much the same thing.

1:00.0

Stop listening to me. Hello. Hi. What's up? If you read the show notes though, you can probably see that today's episode is going to be a little bit different or it may not look like it's going to have the same layout as some of my other episodes.

1:15.0

Some of you are just like what the fuck are you talking about? Just tell your stupid stories so I can get nightmares.

1:20.0

And the whole purpose I've been reaching out to you guys a lot online lately to see what you want to hear more about next year because I'm trying to be a little bit more organized and start working on 2020 stuff now.

1:35.0

In doing so, I've realized that I've been kind of neglecting some really good stories that are out there because I've been so focused on telling a murder story each week.

1:47.0

But when we think about it, like if we go back to the beginning times of Cult Leader BC before Cult Baves back when nobody was listening, I didn't episode about Carl Tansler who in his corpse ride.

2:01.0

It's a really interesting fucked up story, but it doesn't necessarily involve just a murder story from beginning to end.

2:08.0

And I liked when I covered the origin stories behind Bloody Mary. It's actually one of my most popular episodes to date because I feel like we get to branch out into some other areas and it doesn't feel so mundane.

2:21.0

But I want to hear what you guys think, so make sure to, you know, tweet me, Instagram me, I try and read as much as I can.

2:29.0

But every once in a while, it's good to shake things up, so bear with me because I promise there's a whole lot of fucked up shit coming at you guys.

2:36.0

And I think you're really going to like it. Speaking of, I was so surprised at how many of you were so deeply disturbed by episode 49.

2:46.0

And if you haven't listened to episode 49 yet, I don't know what you're waiting for. I told the story of Armin Mives, The Cyber Cannibal.

2:54.0

And after I finished doing that story, I started thinking about his reasoning behind it. Well, I guess more so, the reasoning of his victim, who was a willing participant in this case because the Cyber Cannibal case is a story of consensual homicide.

3:10.0

If you're not familiar with what consensual homicide is, it's basically where somebody is a willingly murdered or they're a willing participant basically.

3:20.0

So it hits me as I'm, you know, thinking about this whole consensual homicide concept, there's got to be more stories out there like this, more bizarre motives, more people who perhaps wanted it, or maybe the killer had a really strange reason for committing this crime, which is what we're focusing on in today's episode.

3:39.0

And this led me down a really very strange rabbit hole on the internet where I just spent a few hours each day reading about some of the most bizarre motives for murder.

3:49.0

And you guys, I'm not kidding you when I tell you that this is some of the weirdest shit that you can even, you can't even make this stuff off.

3:59.0

Like it is too wild. And the first case is actually one that I talked about on Instagram probably close to two years ago now, which if you're not familiar, it's a 50th episode might as well give you a quick rundown.

4:13.0

Cult leader became a thing because I used to tell these scary stories on my Instagram stories and eventually I wanted to take that to the next level.

4:24.0

I was having a lot of fun with it and my very small following at the time was having a good time with it as well.
