Summary

Science is not always what it seems. And scientists don't always act the way they "should." In this episode with Professor Lucia Aronica, we learn a lot about both these statements. We dissect the DIETFITS study, the largest study ever undertaken in personalized nutrition on low carb vs. low fat diets under the direction of Stanford Professor Christopher Gardner, PhD.

Lucia Aronica. She is a PhD and professor at Stanford University, but she's taken sort of her

0:14.1

circuitous path to get there. She's originally from Italy, and you'll hear her lovely accent that she is

0:20.1

pure Italian,

0:21.6

and then she got her PhD in molecular biology in Austria.

0:25.6

She trained at Oxford and then found her way to Stanford, specifically to do genetic and

epigenetic analysis of the Diet Fit study.

So in this interview, we get into the science.

0:36.7

She loves science. You're going to see

0:38.1

her passion for the science and the epigenetics. And we talk a lot about what epigenetics are

0:42.8

and the research behind them. But we also talk about some very simple concepts like gender

0:47.6

stereotypes and how that impacts the diet fits results and how you structure diets and how that even, or sorry, how you

0:56.0

structure studies and how that even is going to impact the results.

1:00.7

I think you'll enjoy her passion.

1:03.0

If you get a little lost in the science, stick with it because she has some great gems

1:07.8

at the end where her personality shines and about how we just should

1:11.6

be acting as human beings and as scientists, acting as kids for the love of knowledge and

1:17.5

not so much about the wars and the battles, which I think is great for all of us.

1:21.6

So enjoy this episode with Professor Lucia Aronica.
