Welcome to this special five-year podversary Q&A episode. I hope that you listen to episode

0:08.1

286 first because that's all about the journey, what I've learned, all that stuff. And now I'm

0:15.6

going to answer some questions that I collected for my community members and the people on my email list.

0:22.2

And we have a very interesting mix of questions. There's stuff about my journey of quitting

0:28.6

drinking, there's stuff about work, there's stuff about my personal life, something for everyone.

0:37.0

So let's get to it.

0:39.2

I spend a lot of time thinking about the difference

0:42.9

between people who successfully stay sober and those who do not.

0:47.8

0:58.1

or tips and strategies that are just disguised willpower. And people who stay sober long-term,

1:05.6

they do life differently. Powering through is not a long-term strategy. It's not that I have more discipline or

1:13.7

self-control than you. It's that I don't rely on discipline or self-control for the most part to stay

1:20.6

sober. And it's not easy to know the difference between when you're using willpower and

1:25.6

white neckling versus when you have an actual appropriate

1:28.9

strategy. And that's why I created Don't Try Hard or Try Different. It's a course about how to take

1:34.8

willpower and turn it into strategies that work. The course is only $29, and if you want to grab it,

1:41.6

please visit soberpowered.com slash willpower. That visit soberpowered.com slash willpower.

1:45.4

That's soberpowered.com slash willpower because willpower is not a long-term strategy.

2:09.0

Okay, our first question is, what specific event triggered you to quit drinking?

2:18.7

Well, if you listen to episode 164, I talk about the 90-day break that I took to try to cure myself.
