Summary

I always tell my students, "don't just be an armchair herbalist!" That means in order to be a true herbalist, you need to have something more than book knowledge of plants- you need to take your understanding from an intellectual level in the mind to a wisdom that is grounded in experience. Oftentimes when I talk about having a deeper connection and relationship with plants, I speak of it in a more spiritual perspective. But in this video I wanted to take a TOTALLY non-spiritual approach for how to deepen your relationship with herbal medicines (even though each of these 5 tenets I outline here are spiritual to me).

about their path in herbal medicine. And his question was so good that I thought that I would

just go ahead and shoot a video on it

because I realized that my answer to this question would probably benefit everyone that is walking a plant path

and is focusing on studying herbal medicine and working with plants to heal themselves, their families, their communities,

their clients and patients, and ultimately to have a positive impact on the world. I was getting

ready to reply to this email and I was like, man, my reply is going to be so long. It would

0:51.6

be way easier for me to just shoot a video on it. So just

for that, on that note, if any of you ever have something that you'd like for me to talk about

1:11.7

hear your thoughts, your opinions on that. So I want to read the question to you because I think

1:17.2

it's a question a lot of you all might have. And it says, I'm trying to gain an understanding of

things on a deeper level and make my first steps onto the path that I seem to have been steered towards.

1:33.5

Here is where I have a question. You seem to regard your relationship with herbs as something more of a kinship than seeing them as tools of the trade.

I have never been a spiritual sort, and I wouldn't know how to meditate or find inner

peace if someone drew me a roadmap and volunteered to drive me to it.

As odd as it may sound, I would like to gain that sort of relationship with herbs,
