Jim Elliot Sacrifice can involve: Time, Talents, & Treasures 1. JESUS MODELED IT, DISCIPLES PRACTICED IT. 2. SACRIFICE TURNS OUR HEARTS. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21 If it does not pinch your heart, it will not move your heart Sacrifice is giving what costs you, it's not convenient, and usually it’s painful. Sacrifice is not measured by what we give, but rather by what we have left. 3. SACRIFICE IS SENDING TREASURES AHEAD OF YOU. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. Matthew 6:20 What leaves your hand does not leave your life 4. SATAN CAN’T STEAL WHAT YOU STORE IN HEAVEN. Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. Matthew 6:19 Whats not sacrificed will be stolen 5. SACRIFICE IS WHEN YOU GIVE WHAT YOU LOVE, NOT WHAT YOU DON’T NEED. Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” Genesis 22:2 Don’t offer Ishmael when God asks for Isaac. 6. SACRIFICE IS NOT A WASTE, ITS WORSHIP. And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.” Genesis 22 Some see sacrifice as wrong, others as a waste, but God calls it worship. There are peaks in God’s mountain only those who sacrifice can enter. 7. SACRIFICE RELEASES PROVISION & PROMISE And Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.” Genesis 22:5 Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. Genesis 22:13 In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.” Genesis 22:18 God gives supernatural faith that what you give will come back to you. Luke 6:38 God opens your eyes to see opportunities you missed. When you sacrifice, God swears to make you a blessing to the nations. Blessing is when God increases your impact, not just your income. In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.” Genesis 22:18 Sacrifice helps us to hear Gods voice. When you don’t heed God’s voice, you will stop hearing it. Confirm things with the spouse. Don’t sleep on it or you will talk yourself out of it. No matter how clear you hear God, it always requires faith to heed Him.
