Hi, I'm Andrew Ross Sorkin, co-host of Squawk Box, and this is five things to know before today's

opening bell. On the top of the list, Treasury Secretary Scott Besson, saying he expects President

Trump and China's President Xi to reach a deal to avert a new 100% tariff on Chinese goods.

Trump and Xi set to meet Thursday in South Korea.

Meantime, Secretary Besson saying he expects the two leaders to finalize a deal for BightDance

to divest TikTok's U.S. operations and keep that platform running in the United States.

Meanwhile, we got some new data coming in from China overnight.

Industrial profits soaring 21.6%

in September from a year ago. Profits at industrial firms have been surging since August and

largely helped by Beijing's policies aimed at curbing price wars. And about 3,200 Boeing defense

workers in the St. Louis area, they're going to stay on strike. The local machinist union saying

its members voted down Boeing's new contract proposal by a 51% to 49% vote. They walked off the job

in early August. And Hurricane Melissa, now a Category 5 storm as it approaches Jamaica. The storm is

expected to make landfall tomorrow, then hit Cuba, and the Bahamas

on Wednesday. Maximum winds right now are 160 miles per hour. The U.S. National

Hurricane Center predicting catastrophic wind, rain and storm searches. And South Florida,

already getting the side effects of all this, it has seen high winds and heavy rains as fans of the storm push into Florida.
