Horror films thrive on the idea that something dangerous or sinister as a foot,

whether you're in the theater amongst other movie goers or in the comfort of your own home.

That experience can be further heightened by the thought that something is off about the movie,

because of what else went on behind the scenes.

Here are the top five strange and creepy unsolved mysteries associated with films.

Number five, Dark Water.

In real life, people kill for a variety of reasons.

Sometimes it's out of anger or spite.

Sometimes for money.

But rarely is it a case that someone is killed just for the senseless reason of replicating

the eerie events of a movie.

But that's what many conspiracy theorists believe may have happened in the famous case of Elisa Lan.

In 2013, Lan was staying at the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles.

The 21-year-old student was reported missing on February 1st.

And two weeks later, her body was discovered in the water tank on the roof of the hotel.

Her death was officially ruled an accidental drowning,

but the circumstances surrounding the supposed accident suggest otherwise.

Days after she was reported missing,

the Los Angeles Police Department released security camera footage

of her behaving very erratically in the hotel elevator and the hallway.

In that video, she can be seen talking to someone, or at least appearing to talk to someone.
