Hello and welcome back to practicing human, the podcast where every day we're getting a little better at life. I'm your host, Corey Miscara, and in today's episode, we're going to talk about a process for getting in touch with your deeper desires. More to come on that in a moment. First, let's settle in together with the sound of the bells. Okay, so the other day in my meditation practice, I was noticing that as my mind settled,

I was getting more in touch with a deeper sense of my life's desires. Less of the superficial desires, or what we could call superficial desires,

such as like, I want to eat that thing right now, or I want to go to the bathroom. That's more

like a biological need. But more just like the general craving of the mind that is just

happening in each moment, this like this give me

more of that that is important right going to the bathroom eating food important but isn't necessarily

like the deeper desire like the deeper inner compass of your life, the deeper wisdom that is informing, you know,

what is next for me? What do I truly want? And one of the things I was seeing is that as the mind

softens its grip around the more superficial desires, we become more attuned to our deeper desires.

And I want to talk about a five-step process for dropping into that in your own life,

if that is something that is calling to you.

So the first is very simple.

Sit and be still in order to get in touch with what I'm going to be talking about, it does require a quality of stillness so that we're not

quickly reacting to the momentary impulses that are always moving through the mind.

So we just create the container for stillness. This could be sitting in a chair, on a cushion, could even be standing,

but just some form of physical stillness.

Next is to just simply notice the mind's cravings.

Notice all the ways the mind on a moment to moment basis is having desires for different things.

Desires for it to be quieter.

Desires for it to be louder.

Desires for your body to feel a certain way.

Desires to eat some food, desires to get up from being still.
