Hello from CNN, I'm a Foma Dikke with the five things you need to know for Tuesday, October 31st.

The Israeli military confirmed that it struck part of the Jabalia refugee camp in northern

Gaza today, which doctors there say caused many casualties.

According to the main UN agency supporting Palestinians in Gaza,

Jabalia is the largest refugee camp there.

Here's what spokesperson for the Israeli forces Richard Heck, told CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

There was a very senior Hamas commander in that area. Sadly he was hiding again as they do behind within civilians and that's all I can see at this point

Hamas has denied that claim and accuses Israel of trying to justify the attack.

Despite the bombing, U.S. National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby says the White House

sees, quote, indications that Israel is trying to protect civilians. Separately, Israeli forces say two of their troops have been killed in Gaza,

since last Friday when Israel announced it would expand its ground operations.

Meanwhile, Pentagon spokesperson Pat Ryder says the U.S. is sending 300 more troops to the Middle East,

but noted that they are not going to Israel.

Last week, the Pentagon said it deployed or is deploying roughly 900 troops there as tensions

escalate. U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blaken and Defense Secretary Lloyd

Austin pressed lawmakers to pass the Biden administration's $105 billion national security package today.

The funding includes about $61 billion for Ukraine, $14 billion for Israel, and $9 billion for humanitarian aid, among other things.
