Hello from CNN, I'm Afoma Dikay, with the five things you need to know for Wednesday, September 6th.

We begin with the judge's ruling in the first televised hearing of the Georgia 2020 election

interference case. So based on what's been presented today,

I'm not finding the severance from Mr. Chesbrough or Powell

is necessary to achieve a fair determination

of the guilt or innocence for either defendant in this case.

Co-defendants Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chessbro will go on trial together on October 23rd.

The defendants lawyers wanted separate trials, but the judge said two lengthy trials would clog up the court calendar and inconvenience jurors.

Powell and Chessboro, along with 17 other co-defendants, including former President Donald Trump, are accused of being part of a broad

conspiracy to try to overturn the 2020 election results in the state.

The judge has not decided whether the other co-defendants will also be tried at the same time, as Bolton County District

Attorney Fawnee Willis has requested, but called the proposed October trial date for all of the defendants

unrealistic.

All 19 defendants have pleaded not guilty.
