| 0:28.0 | Hey, everyone. Emily Abadi here. You are listening to Five Minute Friday on Hurtle. What's up? |
| 0:35.1 | I'm enjoying some time on the West Coast. It's a little warmer here than I heard it is in New York. |
| 0:40.7 | So sending you some warm thoughts today. With that said, |
| 0:47.9 | I'm also sending myself some warm thoughts. I've been having a frustrating week. I got a know that really just threw me into a spiral at the tail end of last week. And I found myself lingering in a place that I don't |
| 0:58.4 | like to be. I was talking about this with a friend of mine and she said something to me that I |
| 1:05.4 | wanted to bring it to you. And that is, what if you just chose one small thing to celebrate this week that maybe you |
| 1:13.7 | wouldn't have taken the time to celebrate otherwise? She challenged me to look around and |
| 1:22.1 | observe my surroundings and find the small joy. And that's something that I traditionally do like to do. |

| 1:36.2 | morning with my journaling practice. I most always end my stream of consciousness page of |
| 1:41.7 | thoughts with a highlight from the past 24 hours. I make a practice |
| 1:46.7 | of gratitude. But I needed to hear it from her. I needed to remember that so many myself included |
| 1:56.6 | can fall into this negativity bias. And what I mean by that is the inclination to focus on the things that aren't going as |
| 2:04.6 | you had hoped, or maybe the things that aren't ideal, the 10%, the email we didn't send, |
| 2:09.8 | the workout we cut short, the laundry still sitting in the dryer. |
| 2:13.4 | And in doing that, we completely ignore the 90% that actually went right. |
| 2:20.6 | I am so often focused on the big items that I can have this inclination to step right over |
| 2:30.6 | the small victories without even a nod of appreciation. And it matters. It really |
| 2:38.1 | matters because when we only focus and celebrate the big milestones, the PR, the promotion, |
| 2:45.2 | the big life change, we're living in a dopamine deficit. And we don't want that. We don't want that at all. |
