Summary

Navigating customer service in a pinch can be the ultimate nightmare (especially when it comes to technology!). This week, I witnessed some of the best ever, and it helped me come back to appreciate just how far a little kindness can go.

Hey everyone, Emily about to hear you are listening to another episode of 5 Minute Friday

0:27.0

from Hurtle. What is going on this week has felt like absolutely non stop for me. I got back into that way that I get back into that way back into the groove that I get into when I know I have a lot to get done in that I have been scheduling out my days and giving certain time blocks to certain activities which is a super great way for me to get these things done and to be productive but back to back days with

0:57.0

time stamp schedules has got me feeling some kind of way heading into the weekend AKA just really really ready for it. Anyway, today's 5 Minute Friday, I'm talking to you about a fun little morning I had filled with customer service earlier this week it kick started speaking to my ever lovely friends that Verizon Fios I know I know that these individuals that I speak with it is not their direct fault that I'm having

1:27.0

Internet issues but when you have to work with not one not two but three different representatives to get done what you've got to get done who there's some patience involved in that so after my lovely little Verizon experience that I had on I believe Tuesday morning I then was scheduled to head on over to the apple genius bar and talk to them about my AirPods which were connecting unexpected

1:56.9

to some of my devices throughout the day. I am sitting there waiting for the genius to come over to me when I look up and see an elderly veteran sitting down with his iPad and another genius basically what it seems to be is that somehow the password got changed on this man's Gmail account and so that is why his emails aren't showing up on the iPad but he

2:26.2

swears he didn't change it he cannot figure it out so in the nicest way possible the apple genius is explaining to him well you know what we could do to fix this we might as well just reset the password together so the genius he starts talking it through with the man on how to reset his Gmail password and the veteran says you know I'm just I'm kind of old if you can't tell like I'm not very good at this technology stuff and the apple genius this nice

2:56.1

young man looks at him and says you know what it's okay man we can do this together and I was just in in awe really of this beautiful moment of kindness and thinking about how many people go

3:13.9

into that store and something is wrong right like their computer is blowing up feels like everything is going

3:20.9

out the window and these employees so often have the most beautiful patience with these customers because that's

3:30.3

their job right and so in this moment I just became really appreciative both for excellent customer service

3:38.2

but also for the opportunity just to treat somebody else with kindness I said this I think in the

3:44.9

Android and Monday's episode but there's just so much going on in the world right now and the least

3:49.4

that we can do in this moment that requires little to no effort is for us to be kind to one

3:56.6

another so my prompt for you this week what is one random act of kindness that you can do for a

4:03.7

friend family member or coworker today again what is one random act of kindness that you can do

4:11.8

for a friend family member or coworker today and now a listener question

4:20.6

hi Emily my name is Tori and I have a question about whether you have ever had a marathon

4:25.8

training cycle go poorly and whether you've ever made the decision to not run the race because of that

4:33.5

I'm not really talking about an injury but maybe just a season of life that was overwhelming and

4:39.0

stressful and maybe that poured over into your training and it was less productive than you had hoped

4:47.1

I recently made the choice to not run a marathon that I've been training for and I've been

4:53.8

struggling with that decision but it feels right for me now just wondering if you experienced anything
