Summary
This week, I rode my bike near one of my old favorite spots. Known for complimentary champagne service in the women's bathroom and their soup dumplings (also, as a bougie New York establishment catering to A-listers and the well-dressed), Beauty & Essex was one of my go-to picks when I first moved to New York City back in 2012. I haven't been back in years, until this week, when I rode by it en route to find caffeine post-workout. Today, I'm reflecting on my early days In this magical city, thinking about how the times of changed, and finding some gratitude for what was (and, what is).

| 0:00.0 | Hey, Hurdlers, Emily Abadi here, bringing you another installment of Five Minute Friday. |
| 0:25.6 | It's kind of crazy that we are approaching the end of a year, to say the least. |
| 0:34.6 | A year that went entirely like none of us had envisioned, but certainly had, |
| 0:42.4 | I think, it's fair share of positives in addition to God, everything that's just been going on. |
| 0:50.7 | I do want to take a moment to say that I really am wishing just health and good |
| 0:57.4 | things to all of you that are listening to this. I know that right now we're all kind of going |
| 1:01.2 | through it. Having been in New York for the majority of this pandemic here in this apartment by |
| 1:08.4 | myself, I know that it's scary. I saw and lived through, like many of you, |
| 1:15.6 | some really intense times here back in March and April. And I know that a lot of the rest of the |
| 1:20.7 | country outside of my bubble is going through some of that in their own way right now. So my |
| 1:25.8 | thoughts and my prayers to all of you as you listen to this, |
| 1:28.7 | I want to send you always just my best, my best vibes. Anyway, this episode, Five Minute Friday, |
| 1:36.4 | thanks for listening. This week, I want to tell you a story about my early days living in New York, |
| 1:41.9 | and this was prompted by a bike ride that I was on. I've mentioned |
| 1:46.8 | on the show before that every Tuesday I usually go and run at a track in Manhattan and then |
| 1:53.0 | bike on over to one of my favorite coffee shops. And this week in particular, I kind of mixed |
| 1:59.7 | up my bike route only because of the traffic pattern |
| 2:02.4 | at the time and ended up biking down a street that I used to go to a lot when I was a newer |
| 2:10.3 | New Yorker. And this street just happens to be Essex Street. And on Essex Street is a restaurant |
| 2:16.9 | called Beauty in Essex. |
| 2:20.0 | And, okay, I'll tell you why Beauty and Essex has some meaning to me. |
| 2:24.6 | So it's interesting. |
