Summary

Tomorrow morning, I’m going to lace up and run 26.2 miles. There are a lot of thoughts that go through a person’s head in the days and hours leading up to lacing up and tackling a full marathon. Those thoughts, for me, are slightly different today than they have been before starting lines past. In 5-MINUTE FRIDAY this week, I'm talking it all out — the nerves, the feelings, and my attitude toward taking on a hard challenge in a hard year.

Hey, Hurdlers, Emily Abadi here bringing you this week's episode of Five Minute Friday.

0:26.4

What a week. I said that at the beginning of every one of these episodes. I am anxious and excited and feel like I'm forgetting things, but that happens all the time.

0:38.6

This week, a little bit more than usual, because I am setting out to run a virtual

0:43.5

marathon this weekend because why not?

0:48.0

And really, I mean, I wrote about that on social media earlier yesterday, just like this

0:54.0

idea that I feel as though in a year that is so

0:59.6

full of ups and downs and things that I am unsure of and feeling like you're like not enough

1:06.2

or that you have so much to prove and you're spending so much time alone, like so many things about

1:12.0

this year, so many hard things that this virtual marathon for me is a reminder. I know that I can do

1:21.6

the hard things. And so when I keep getting asked, you know, why would you do that? I'm just kind of like,

1:31.0

you know what? Why not? Anyway, for five minute Friday this week, I am talking a little bit more

1:37.4

about the virtual marathon. You know, I'll be lacing up on Saturday to do it. And, you know,

1:42.9

we all think a ton of things before any race,

1:45.8

whether it's a mile or a 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon, what have you. You have a lot of

1:51.3

thoughts, right? This week, I have been thinking, like, I need to do laundry. I need to buy

1:55.7

bagels. I'm out of peanut butter. I, uh, should I wear a race bib?

2:06.0

I'm wondering if the temperature, which I think is like maybe a high of 48 right now,

2:08.0

like should I be wearing shorts?

2:09.1

Should I be wearing pants?

2:10.3

Should I be wearing a long sleeve?

2:12.1

Do I know what route I'm going? Which actually is kind of comical, considering you need to map out where you're going to go in some respects to

2:20.3

make sure that you have enough room to run 26.2 miles. But God, that makes it a lot more difficult
