While the campaign for Palestinian rights has been a long-standing tradition on the British

left, it has had little to show in the way of foreign policy success.

When a stalwart to far- left pro-Palestine activism became

labour frontrunner, activists became hopeful that under Jeremy Corbyn the party could achieve more than

Miliband had done. However, Corbyn's record of activism often went far beyond social democratic

traditions, including public defences of perpetrators of political violence. And as that history

came to light, many within the party began to raise concerns. Debate surrounding these issues

descended into explicit hostility, as his supporters virulently defended him against questions

regarding his history, considering any legitimate questions to be part of a coordinated smear campaign.

The atmosphere quickly began to toxify, and as high-profile incidents,

such as Corbyn's defence of an anti-Semitic mural,

began to circulate in the press,

Jewish Labour members who voiced their grievances became victims of anti-Semitic abuse.
