So when you think of the Chicago River, what comes to mind?

Maybe that bright green hue on St. Patrick's Day, or that it used to be really dirty,

like reverse the flow of the river kind of dirty.

What a lovely day for a swim. While on Sunday, well, on Sunday, over 250 people did something that hasn't been done in nearly 100 years, swim in it.

It's a way to take a victory lap for all of the hard work that has taken place over those 40, 50 years of really

dedicated focus on cleaning up the river.

And boy, what an exciting time.

Doug McConnell is the organizer behind the event Chicago River Swim and co-founder of a nonprofit

called A Long Swim, which supports ALS research.

Doug said he spent more than 10 years trying to bring this race back.
