Hello everyone out there in the gardening world. This is Kevin from Epic Gardening and today we are talking about a question from Mark.

0:10.0

So Mark says this, Kevin, I am in St. Augustine, Florida, and I have epic weeds.

0:17.0

Now that's one thing I don't want people to have epic amounts of.

0:21.0

Sorry to hear that, Mark.

0:22.0

I have a quarter acre for food for my family. We grow a lot, but how do you naturally control weeds besides just pulling them up?

0:31.8

So that's certainly one natural way,

0:33.7

but a lot of people don't like doing that,

0:35.2

myself included.

0:35.9

So I'm going to go over a few different ways

0:38.2

that you can do this.

0:39.2

So the first one is going to be mulching.

0:41.8

So mulching, I obviously talk quite a bit about you can do a

0:45.0

wood chip mulch and that can do quite a good job. Two to three inches across the

0:51.2

ground will smother a lot of those weeds. Obviously some of the

0:54.6

ones that are established, not going to do much for those, but it will help other

0:59.2

weeds from coming up in the first place. So mulching, besides all the other benefits

1:03.9

for your garden, it's going to be a weed inhibitor.

1:07.0

So really good idea.

1:08.4

Another one that I talk about a lot is more high density planting.

1:12.8

The more densely you plant your vegetables

1:15.4

than the less available resources for a weed to come up.

1:20.5

And so that would mean nutrients, that would mean water, that would also mean sun because the more densely you plant, the more sun you're blocking from the ground.
