Summary

Welcome back to part two with Donald Hoffman.

In this episode, we take a deep exploration into the nature of reality, consciousness, and the very fabric of spacetime itself. Donald Hoffman challenges our conventional understanding of the world, proposing revolutionary ideas that our perceptions are mere virtual realities crafted by evolution to guide adaptive behavior rather than reveal the objective truth. We delve into quantum entanglement, the concept of local realism, and the tantalizing mysteries beyond spacetime, examining how these ideas could reshape our perception of reality.

Hoffman also discusses the intricate dynamics of human perception, the role of evolutionary game theory, and the mind-boggling complexity of decorated permutations in particle physics. As we question whether consciousness itself might be fundamental, prepare to embark on a journey that stretches the boundaries of science and philosophy.

Tune in, as Tom Bilyeu and Donald Hoffman bring you insights that could radically alter your understanding of the universe.

Welcome back to Impact Theory. In the first part of our chat with Donald Hoffman, we explored how our perceptions might just be a tiny slice of reality and questioned the very foundation of spacetime.

0:12.0

Now, let's jump back in and explore the implications of what lies beyond this potentially simulated reality.

0:21.6

Do we recognize the truth of reality?

0:25.6

Well, our best science tells us that space-time is not fundamental.

0:30.6

This is the conclusion of both physics and evolution by natural selection.

0:34.6

So the physicists tell us that space time is doomed.

0:37.9

It's not fundamental.

0:39.2

And they're finding new structures beyond space time,

0:42.7

like the amplitudehedron,

0:43.9

that actually make the math easier in space time

0:47.1

for the things they need to do.

0:48.9

And then evolution by natural selection

0:50.8

also agrees with the physicist

0:52.3

that space time is not fundamental.

0:54.7

Let's explain that. So when you say that space time isn't fundamental, what do we mean exactly?

1:01.2

In like the simplest, or we'll get into the geeky, like deep stuff in a second, but for the audience,

1:05.5

that hasn't heard you talk before, what does that mean?

1:09.0

Well, we tend to think of space and time as the basic level of

1:14.0

reality. Everything that could possibly be is inside space and has some time. The big bang was the

1:23.1

start of it all. And who knows what the end will be, maybe a big crunch or just petering out in low entropy

1:30.2

and low temperature. We don't know yet. But that we think, or we thought, is the basis of all

1:37.5

reality. So space and time are the basic stage on which all of reality plays out.
