Thank you for joining me today as we talk about Section 76, which is an amazing, an amazing section.

Notice that this is the section in the D&C. Actually, I guess now that we've added

Section 138, there are two. How are Section 138 designated? I should check that, which was

the vision of the redemption of the dead. So that one is probably also, yes,

it's designated as a vision in the heading. Prior to the addition of Section 138, which was,

in my lifetime, to be canonized as part of the DNC, section 76 was the only section that was a vision.

The others are designated as revelations given, or a prayer that was revealed, for instance, for the dedication to Kirtland Temple.

So this was a standout section that was referred to for many years early in the restoration as the vision. Now, for most of us,

when we think the vision, if we're well acquainted with the church, we typically think that

that's referring to Joseph Smith's experience in the sacred grove where he saw the

father and the son, and certainly that was a vision. But this was referred to as the vision for a

long time by the early saints in this dispensation. Because it was so, I mean, I want to say

mind-blowing, and it was, but so full of comfort and a message of peace and so different from creedal Christianity.

Now, when I say creedal Christianity, that's referring to the churches that sort of subscribe to the Nicene Creed. And you remember the Council of Nicaa back in,

you know, the fourth century or whatever. I could be off, forgive me. I didn't look it up.

But it was way back when Constantine was the emperor of Rome, got converted to Christianity,

but he didn't really know, you know, what the regularized position of Christianity was on a lot of issues.

So this council was formulated and met in Nicaea

and basically wrote down doctrinal tenets that the committee came up with.

And, of course, there was a lot of apostasy.
