The first day of the NFL's open negotiating period produced a feeding frenzy for teams looking to improve on the open market.

The 49ers did not figure to re-sign some of their notable free agents and sure enough they saw Jimmy Garoplo, Mike McLinchy, Jimmy Ward and some others agreed to deals elsewhere.

Garoplo's agreement with the Las Vegas Raiders closes the book on a wild five and a half season ride with the organization.

Jennifer Lee Chan and I will discuss Garopolo's legacy with the 49ers.

But the big surprise was not any player who left. It was a player the 49ers were able to sign away from the team that beat them in the NFC championship game.

All right, this is 49ers talk brought you by Bigotires. I met, she's Jennifer, and the first day of the open negotiating period proved that there was a lot of

tampering going on because a lot of stuff happened, a lot of agreements reached on the very quickly.

Very quickly. Yeah, very quickly. So we can all assume that there was a lot of groundwork set in the weeks leading up to this and Jennifer we have a lot to discuss on this one where does your mind go immediately with the happenings, the comings and the goings, the one coming in particular for the 49ers?

But where does he go? That one was the surprise. That I agree. So shall we start there? But before we start there with J. Von Hargrave, let's just say it. We will talk a lot about Jimmy Gropolo later and so but we've all kind of assumed we've known for three years.

We've been racing for the departure, Jimmy Gropolo for three years, and so it can

wait another 15 minutes, I think, to just stay so long to Jimmy. But J. Von Hargrave is a guy, defensive tackle with the Philadelphia Eagles that I never, ever would have thought that the Fort United would be in play for.

I never thought that they were going to go for some big ticket free agent.

I just didn't. I mean, you look at their, you know, they're going to have to pay Nicobosa really quickly and they've got a lot of payroll dedicated to so many star players.

I just didn't think they could fit another star player on the roster and afford it.

So I mean that was the big surprise I think of the entire day of the first day of this.

But yeah, I mean you and I have both talked about repeatedly on the podcast that

along with Bosa and

Eric Arm said they need to have more reinforcements on the defensive line and

they got it. Yeah and it wasn't even reinforcements it's I mean they needed

...
