I'm Rob Stats Guerrera. Today is Wednesday, April 1st, 2026. Here's what's happening with your San Francisco 49ers.

Jed York surprised a lot of Niners fans when he admitted he had, quote, no idea.

The team had signed wide receiver Christian Kirk.

Well, this week, Kirk himself appeared on the In Good Company with Mitch Morse podcast

and explained why he did in fact sign with the 49ers.

I was in a position to be a little bit more picky on where I wanted to go.

At this point of my career, I think it just all depended on being in the right situation.

And so from the get-go, San Fran had interest.

Like, there was a lot of interest there.

And it excited me just because, you know, I played in that division for four years.

Shanahan has had that thing rolling for a while. All those guys, Purdy, CMAG, Kiddle, Fred Warner. I mean, list goes on, Trent Williams. And so played against all those guys, you know, a lot of respect for that organization. And so I started thinking about it. I'm like, yes, that's a great fit. great fit and I feel you know, I fit into that locker room really well and, you know, I want to be a part of what they're doing.

And so, you know, I had some other options out there. It was just kind of, you know, taking my time and just really doing my due diligence. and I got on the phone with, you know, Kyle Shanahan,

and we just talked about, you know,

what I could do in the offense, you know,

being a part of the scheme and just the direction that they're headed and, you know, it's really a no-brainer at the end of the day. So I'm super excited to be a part of the 49ers and I get to be back on the West Coast, closer to the home. Generally, with free agency, here's how it works.
