Good morning and welcome to 49ers in 5, your daily update on everything happening with the team that you need to know.

I'm Rob Stats Guerrera. Today is Monday, June 1st, 26. Here's what's happening with your San Francisco 49ers.

You just heard the date and you know what that means. Starting at 4 p.m. Eastern time today,

teams can cut and trade players while spreading the salary cap hit out over multiple seasons.

Obviously, many people think this is when we will finally see something happen

with the 49ers and Brandon Ayuk, but all that depends on two things. So let me break it down

for you. Does Brandon Ayuk report to the 49ers number one? And if he does, can he pass a physical? Here's the long and short of it. Let's say IUC reports

and passes a physical. In that case, the 49ers cannot just stash him away on the roster and do nothing.

They have to let Brandon Ayuk practice with the team go to meetings, all that stuff. At that point, the 49ers would

have to decide what to do with him in terms of a trade or a release, or technically they could

try and work it out. But if IUC doesn't report to the 49ers and continues doing what he has

been doing, which essentially is nothing, the 49ers actually have a strong

incentive to do nothing as well because they can put him on the did not report list.

So the way that works is you go on this list if you don't show up.

If he is on that list, the Niners can get back all of his 2026 cap hit, including pro-rated bonuses,

and there's no acceleration of his dead cap. It is essentially the best thing from a business

perspective that could happen for the 49ers. And if he continued to stay away, they could do that

for every year of his contract.

That's left, 27, 28, and 29, and they'd get all the pro-rated bonus back.

So essentially, as long as Brandon Ayuk stays away, the 49ers have no reason to do anything.

Now, if Iyuk reports and he doesn't pass a physical, he could challenge that and then there

would be a whole other arbitration and that's a whole other story. But long story short,
