I'm Rob Stats Guerrera. Today is Friday, February 20, 26. Here's what's happening with your San Francisco 49ers. The team announced this week that

they have signed offensive lineman Nick Zakel to a one-year contract extension. Now, normally,

I wouldn't waste your time with such a minor move like this, but I got some time today.

Find yourself someone that loves you as much as the San Francisco 49ers love Nick

Zakel. I don't know how this guy has stuck around for this long. He was originally drafted

in the sixth round of 2022. He played five games as a rookie. The next year he played in three

games before an injury forced him to go on injured reserve.

And in 2024, he played in every game, but he never started any of those.

Last season alone, Nick Zekal was waived on August 26th.

A day later, he was signed to the practice squad.

Then on October 18th, he was elevated to the active roster. Then on October 25th, he was sent back down to the practice squad. Then on October 18th, he was elevated to the active roster. Then on October 25th,

he was sent back down to the practice squad. Then three days after that, he was assigned to the

practice squad. On November 1st, he got bumped up to the active roster. On November 3rd, he was assigned

to the practice squad. In January, he was released, and two days ago, he was signed. He's never been

particularly good in any of his appearances. He's played 29 games in four years. He has,

most famously been known as Brock Purdy's roommate for the first two years. Brock was in the league.

Other than that, he really hasn't done anything. And I know this is probably just a depth thing, right? They need bodies, so they're bringing him in. But like the Niners have said multiple times that this guy isn't good enough. And again, he's been in the league since 2022. How long do we have to wait before we finally see something out of Nick Sakel? When do we just say, you know what? I don't think it's happening with this guy. Like I said, hopefully he never has to play. Maybe this is just a thing to get a body on the roster because they've got some free agents. But it's just crazy to me that Nick Sakel, remember Dante Johnson, we called him the barnacle. I feel like Nick Zekow is the new barnacle for the San Francisco

49ers. We always give you one thing to read, one thing to watch, and one thing you might have

missed. One thing to read on this Friday, if you were holding out hope that the 49ers would

trade for Max Crosby, I think you can forget that idea because Matt Mayoko has a piece for NBC Sports

Bay Area basically explaining all the reasons why the 49ers are not going to do it.
