Good morning and welcome to 49ers in 5, your daily update on everything happening with the team that you need to know.

I'm Rob Stats Guerrera. Today is Wednesday, August 20th, 2025. Here's what's happening with your San Francisco 49ers.

Kyle Shanahan spoke yesterday, and we have a lot of updates. First, the following players

missed practice yesterday. Mack Jones, Juan Jennings, Jordan Watkins, Upton Stout, Trey

Brown, Richie Grant, Jordan James, Mikel Hill Williams, C.J. West, Dominic Pony,

Ben Bartch, Trent Williams, Kevin Givens, Fabian Moreau, Corey Kiner, Robert Beale, and Stone Blanton.

Now, on the plus side, they did have a few players return to practice. That would be

Renardo Green, Jason Pinnock, Isaac Garendo, Sam Okuano,

Jordan Elliott, and Nick Bosa. Once Kyle Shanahan hit the podium, we got a little more detail

on some of the absences. First, Mack Jones had a knee injury coming out of the preseason game.

He is not going to play this week. His status for week one

is unknown and the team also signed Nate Sudfeld at quarterback. So that should give you a little

pause for week one. Patrick Taylor Jr. is done for the year with a fractured shoulder that's

going to require surgery. He's going on IR. Mikel Williams knee is still sore. He's day to day, but they're really

hoping for a return next week. Corey Kiner has a, quote, really bad high ankle sprain. He could

start the year on injured reserve. Upton Stout will be back, quote, sooner rather than later,

end quote, but his week one is not in doubt right now. The same also apparently applies to Joanne Jennings.

I don't know if I believe that, but that is what Kyle said yesterday.

And Dominic Pony has a, quote, knee sprain and we'll be out a few weeks, which led to this exchange.

Is there a concern at this point that Poonie won't be available for the start of the regular season?

There's a concern, but I know he's got a chance to also.
