I'm going to do something I don't usually do on the show and then is praise one of the 49ers

beatwriters. Today, David Lombardi gets the flowers. He has a story in the athletic all about how

Steve Wilkes is integrating into the 49ers coaching staff, and this thing is

loaded with great information that we otherwise would never have known.

For example, what Kyle Shanahan told Steve Wilkes about bringing his own staff with him to the

job, why Wilkes is going to stay in the booth rather than coach on the field,

and how the 49ers have specifically built a program that makes it easier to replace any

coaches that leave.

Now, I don't want to give away all the juicy bits because the article is behind a paywall,

but let me summarize it this way, okay?

Kyle Shanahan and the Niners basically told Wilkes that he can have his way in the secondary

and nowhere else.

All of his time this offseason was about taking a crash course in the 49ers defense and how

they do things.

They told him not to move his family out to the Bay Area right away

so that he would be completely focused on learning the system and not distracted.

This is the kind of stuff that I want from the 49ers beat riders.
