I'm Rob Stats Guerrera. Today is Friday, May 16th, 2025. Here's what's happening with your San Francisco 49ers. Remember last month when we

talked about the Niners signing veteran tackle DJ Humphreys? Yeah, well, apparently that never

actually happened. Multiple sources told NBC Sports Bay Area yesterday that Humphreys has not agreed to

terms with the 49ers, as previously

reported, even though it was Humphreys agency itself that dropped the initial announcement on

Twitter on April 29. I'm not sure what happened specifically, but now we know why Andre Dillard

and Nicholas Petit Frere are on the roster because DJ Humphreys isn't.

In other news, according to multiple reports, the Niners are in the process of selling

6.2% of the team to a trio of Bay Area families at a valuation of around $8.5 billion.

The York family would sell about 3.1% to one family, 2.1% to another family, and 1% to

William Griffith.

The league's finance committee has recommended approval of the transactions at next week's

NFL owners meeting in Minnesota.

If it's approved, Judd York would still control approximately 91% of the club.

The Niners apparently declined to comment.

I can't help but wonder if some of that money is going to be held in escrow for a certain

quarterback's contract that maybe could be coming

soon. Because remember, when you sign guys to a big deal, part of that contract has to be

placed in an escrow account. You've got to have the actual liquid cash placed in an escrow account

so that the player is guaranteed to get paid if the team somehow went out of business.

It's a very old rule, but it's still on the books.
