Good morning and welcome to 49ers in 5, your daily update on everything happening with the team that you need to know.

I'm Rob Stats Guerrera. Today is Friday, January 23rd, 26. Here's what's happening with your San Francisco 49ers. We haven't heard much about

who the Niners are looking at to replace Robert Sala other than Gus Bradley, but we did get a little

bit of info yesterday about one coaching move they tried to make. Tom Palliserra reported that the

49ers requested an interview with Falcon's secondary coach Justin Hood for a, quote, high ranking staff position.

Unfortunately for the Niners, Atlanta blocked it.

Apparently, Kevin Stefansky wants to retain some of the coaches that were on Jeff Oldbrick's staff.

Now, we know the Niners weren't asking about Justin Hood to be

defensive coordinator because the Falcons could not have blocked that by league rule. You can't

stop someone from interviewing for a promotion. You can stop them from interviewing for a lateral

move. Here's the question. Why were the 49ers going after a defensive assistant coach

before hiring a new defensive coordinator? And in case you're wondering, Justin Hood

doesn't appear to have any real ties to Gus Bradley. But, but he does have ties to

Raheim Morris, who remember is one of Kyle Shanahan's best friends in coaching and is currently unemployed.

Justin Hood was on Morris's staff in Atlanta as the secondary coach since Morris took over there in 2024.

The other thing to keep in mind, of course, is that the 49ers already have a

secondary coach right now in Daniel Bullock, but it's possible that he could be headed out the

door with Robert Sala to Tennessee. So the coaching carousel continues to turn. If the 49ers do

interview anybody for defensive coordinator, of course,

we will let you know. We heard yesterday from John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan that Brandon Ayuk

has played his last snap with the 49ers. Yesterday on Pro Football Talk Live, Chris Sims

offered his take on the situation. Brandon Ayuk screwed them over with the whole contract situation anyways. He wanted to be traded. He wanted to be traded. He wanted to be traded. Trade me, trade me, trade me, trade me, trade me. Then it became, oh, no, no, I only want to go to these places. Then they worked out trades with those places. He said, I don't want to be traded, actually. I just want to try to work it out here. All while not really getting himself in shape and being ready for the year. And the 49ers, I think, you know, for their own part, have made a little mistake in going like what you heard them say before. You just don't, you're not in the business of getting rid of good players. And you just went to the Super Bowl. So you're a little bit like, ah, we don't want to let him go. We might be able to make another run at it. So they give him the contract. And then because he's not ready to go and all that, he hurts his knee. And then he disappears, right? I mean, you know, I know that crew, those two guys right there. Lynch and Shanahan are old school. They're not going to deal with that bull crap. so yeah, he's out of there. That's for sure. In case you didn't know, Chris Sims is best friends with Kyle Shanahan. So his opinion on all things 49ers obviously carries a bit more weight. I would like to point out, however, that Brandon Ayuk hurt his knee because a member of the chief's defense smashed into it at full speed.
