Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. When I was growing up my family used to do a lot of camping trips on the weekends.

My sister and my mom would usually go to bed early, but my dad and I would stay up just talking.

0:20.0

And he would often talk to me about the vastness of the universe. I didn't know a lot about

0:25.7

it back then and he knew some but not a great deal, but those talks with my father really

0:30.8

sparked my interest in trying to understand the universe better.

0:34.3

And I've spent a good part of my life doing that.

0:38.0

years across. Light travels at 300,000 kilometers in one second, so think how fast that is. The other thing is how many stars

1:27.1

there are. We live in what's called the Milky Way. It's a galaxy about the

1:32.2

size of 100,000 light years across.

1:35.0

And in our galaxy alone, there's estimated to be 100 to 400 billion stars, just in our galaxy. And then, of course, there are many other galaxies. stars just

1:45.0

in our galaxy.

1:46.0

and then of course there are many other galaxies in the universe. We're just one in a countless sea of galaxies

1:50.0

but they estimate there may be up to two trillion

1:52.0

galaxies in our universe alone.
