Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. A lot of people struggle on our world and that's why I really love what I do.

As a clinical psychologist, I help people overcome struggles.

Or at least I try to. Now I've been helping people for over 30 years. That's a long time.

That's a lot of people that I've spent time with. And if all the things that people struggle with and

all the different stories that I've heard and I've heard

a lot of them as I'm sure you have too because I think we all know people that are struggling

and I think perhaps some people listening to this right now may be struggling. But when we're

suffering what's the really root cause of our suffering? Is it the tragic event

that happened when we were a child? Is it the awful situation we're in right now, like going through a divorce,

or having a job that we hate, or having some physical ailment that is just horrific?

Are these the reasons that we suffer?

So I'd like to share a couple examples of going through a rough time

and seeing if you could see a different outcome

based on how they're treated by other people.

Let's say a person's in a relationship that they're happy with, that they enjoy,

but for whatever reason, the other person says, I'm done,

I don't want to be in this relationship anymore.

And they really were hopeful that this relationship

would last perhaps for the rest of their lives. Now let's say they reach out to their

family, they call up their friends and everyone is very loving and supportive.

Perhaps they say come back home live with us for a while as you go through this difficult

time.
