| 0:36.4 | I want you to know what to expect as well. We have conversations here on the podcast that are both financial and non-financial |
| 0:42.8 | in nature. And we want you to know what to expect when you're looking at those episodes. Today, |
| 0:48.8 | we are speaking to Freedom After 50. This is our non-financial series of episodes. So if you're thinking about those |
| 0:56.2 | non-financial aspects of retirement, some might argue the more important aspects of retirement. |
| 1:01.4 | Well, this episode is for you. Today, we're going to be focusing on spirituality and faith |
| 1:07.7 | in retirement. But before you turn this off, or turn it up for that matter, I want to |
| 1:13.0 | introduce you to our coach and I want to define what this means and why we're starting in this |
| 1:18.4 | journey. We have our certified retirement coach and chief purpose officer here at Howard |
| 1:23.6 | Bailey. Les McDaniel, joining us. Les, welcome to the show. Well, thank you, sir. This is an exciting topic, of course. And for whatever reason, we decide to talk about things that most people say, you're not supposed to talk about religion and politics and all those things. But these are the things that we do need to be talking about. So I think it's a good place to start. And yeah, let's get it going, man. Yeah, I never understood that personally. You're not supposed to talk about religion or politics when you're with your family. And I feel like that's always where I go, because that's where the good stuff is. I know. It is. And why is that? Well, that's because we have such different views quite often. And we really like to stand on business in this regard and say, well, this is where I'm putting my flag. And so you get in some really meaningful and exciting conversations. I think that only really works if we're open to other people's views of the world. Now, when we get into this, we're going to talk about a lot of different topics. I don't know how long this episode's going to be. I don't know if this is going to be a six-part series or maybe we just wrap it all up right here today. I'm just going to have some faith that at the end of the day, this is going to be some truly impactful content for the listeners. So let's talk about spirituality. Let's talk about faith. I think sometimes, |
| 2:34.4 | like I said, we either tune this out or we turn it up, we get this wrong, we have the idea of |
| 2:38.8 | this wrong. Let's just kind of define these things and talk through the reasons that we think |
| 2:45.0 | this is so vital to a retirement transition and so central to all of the discussions that you're having with your |
| 2:52.1 | coaching clients. |
| 2:53.0 | We can definitely go down this pathway for sure. And spirituality is such an important one because |
| 2:56.8 | we don't want to get into the weeds of what happens in the social media world and in other |
| 3:01.2 | areas where you show up to a family Thanksgiving and you say something like, well, let me |
| 3:05.9 | tell you what I believe. And all of a sudden, everybody's on edge and concern, right? And really, that's not what we're talking about today. This isn't about anything that we're trying to get you to force feed you. We're not even, while there is my worldview, and I believe we share that same worldview, which is the Christian worldview and perspective on things, it's not to say that we are trying to get you to swallow that pill. Rather, we want you to hear the wisdom that comes from teachers from these great wisdom traditions. And so before we jump into that and get into the weeds, I'm just going to literally almost read word for word what I've got written here because I think it's, I don't want to miss any of it. You see, spirituality is the practice of seeking connection to something greater than oneself. At the core of what we're doing here, that's all it is. |
