Welcome to Family Crest, a podcast that explores how so many elite

athletes got to the top with a family member behind them, inspiring and challenging them from an

early age. In quite a few sports, it's tough to reach the top if you didn't have someone pushing

and teaching you when you were young. Surfing is definitely one of those sports.

In my job here at Red Bull, I've gotten to meet tons of pro-surfers,

and I've seen how many had a parent who paddled out with them

at an age where most of their friends were home watching cartoons.

Well, when you're successful and you're that young, you know, you're 15 or 16,

you feel like you can tell anyone to fuck off, really, you know, you're 15 or 16, you're kind of, you feel like you can tell

anyone to fuck off, really, you know, and who better than your dad, right?

This season, we're looking at surfers and their support network, surfers like Kolohe and Dino,

who competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and is the son of former pro surfer Dino and Dino.

You know, really, I just want to be in the water all the time.

It's like, if I'm not in the water, I'm not very stoked.

Family bonds are complicated, something that transcends sports.
