Today, the first and second epistles of Peter.

This is a real treat to get the words of Peter, the chief apostle, the one who was

next to the Savior in so many of those incredible stories that we read back in the Gospels.

And quite frankly, the one who seemed to get the most corrective feedback from the Savior.

The one who was constantly doing things and then finding out after, oh, I probably should have done that a little differently,

but he kept taking it meekly, humbly, and because of that, the Lord kept giving that instructive

feedback and he grew and became this incredible apostle from that first miracle on the fishing boat,

back on Luke 5, in Luke 5, until we get to hear this first and second general epistle of Peter,

where you see him speaking in very beautiful language.

In fact, Joseph Smith said that Peter penned the most sublime language of any of the apostles.

That's a pretty high praise coming from Joseph Smith. Sublime language

is a good description of what we get here. So let's begin by talking about his audience. And you get that in verse 1.

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia,

Asia, and Bethinia. If you unpack a couple of these words for a moment, you'll notice

strangers. These are people who are not in their homeland,

their exiles, their refugees, if you will,
