Summary

One of the newest drugs to hit the critical care environment is angiotensin II, which goes by the brand name Giapreza. It is a continuous IV infusion used for patients in septic shock or other forms of distributive shock. today Gia Preza, also known as Angio Tenson, too. So if you remember from

your physiology class, there's this whole system called the RAS system, R-A-A-S.

And I'm going to go through a brief overview with that right now

because to be honest, whenever someone mentions the RAS system system I always have to review it myself.

So to begin first we have Angio Tenson which activates Renin

which in turn converts angiotensin into angiotensin one.

Then you have your angiotensin converting enzyme, which converts angiotensin one into angiotensin 2 which stimulates

vasoconstriction to regulate and the desired effect for us with the use of

this drug to increase blood pressure. So that might give you a little bit of a clue as to why we use GiaPressa in the first place.

Basically this is a pretty new drug out on the market and it is used

in adults with septic shock or other forms of distributive shock to increase mean arterial pressure.

And I have to say I've used it once on a patient
