Yo, today's QOD is this. You can suffer and be okay. You can suffer and still make something happen.

Welcome back to the quote of the day show. I'm your host Sean Crox and a Sean Crox and

0:37.3

dot com. Today's episode is a very special episode. It is with Claire Wyland who passed away

0:43.8

last week from cystic fibrosis. This is such an incredible talk. And you know, I did a

0:50.0

research paper about cystic fibrosis when I was in college and it is a brutal disease. And

0:57.6

to hear someone and to see somebody going through such pain and discomfort every day,

1:06.0

to see her go out there and make a difference in people's lives is just so hugely inspiring.

1:13.2

You know, because it shows us that no matter what we are going through and we're all going

1:18.0

through something, we can still have an impact. We can still contribute to the life of others.

Here's Claire. So the first talk I ever did was a TEDx funny enough. And I was 14 years old.

1:34.9

And I was scared. Like could piss my pants. I had bought this, I bought this like little ruffly,

1:45.3

like white target dress that I was super excited. I was excited for it because I was like 14.

1:51.0

And I remember getting a bun stage and it was the first and only talk in my entire career

1:57.7

of doing speaking that I ever planned. Like that I wrote down. I don't plan talks. I'm actually

2:02.5

really horrible. I'm a horrible person. And I'm probably a nightmare for planners of these kinds

2:08.4

of events to deal with because I don't ever do speech outlines. I don't even really have titles.

2:13.3

I like just made up a title for this completely randomly. So anyway, I get up on stage

2:20.4

and my hands start getting all clammy and I start feeling I'm in a vomit and it doesn't go away.

2:26.8

For the entire talk, I'm sitting there saying everything that I recited and I'm terrified.

2:31.8

But for some reason, after that talk, I got a call to do another one and then another one. And I just

2:38.3

kept doing them. And I still don't really know why I'm doing them. So that's the intro story

2:44.8

to the main talk. So anyway, when I first started doing talks when I was 14, my talks were pretty simple.
