The story that two high-profile Mormon activists had been threatened with excommunications

become national news, and observers are trying to assess what it all means about the intentions

of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Whether they're trying to repress what seems like a growing movement of members who are

raising questions about Church history and Church policies, or if all of this is just

the natural consequence for members who publicly oppose their Church.

What has been missing in the conversation has been the particular perspective of the

Church itself, and today in the program we're going to try and provide that.

The Spokeswoman for the LDS Church is joining us today to offer perspective to this story,

so we'll ask about how Church discipline works, about who's directing all of this.

So we'll ask what is the proper forum for Mormons who want to express doubt or raise

questions.

and threatened with excommunication, unless they back away from their respective crusades

and public comments, raising questions about Church history or criticizing Church doctrine

and leadership.
