Once you leave an employer, nine times out of 10, it can easily be rolled to an IRA, which can be self-directed. Or you can roll it to a new 401k in your new small business. The person that told them that, I'm going to make a guess. It's either a person that has no idea about tax and legal strategies and they're just having sharing a beer on Friday night telling you what you should do. Yeah. Or is someone trying to sell you an LLC? Yeah. Because this is not a good idea.

K-1 as a write-off. That's a good thing. It shouldn't be screwing up your personal taxes.
