Summary

Vanessa Magula wraps up her episodes by taking questions from the Patreon Peeps! This week, she talks about her connection to all three Schuyler sisters including having such a soft spot for Eliza and why performing Satisfied is like playing Hamlet. From owning the room as Angelica, to accessing love through Eliza, and slayingggg that red dress as Maria, Vanessa absolutely LOVES being a standby.

Vanessa also talks about her amazing husband Andrew, her newfound love of handbags and their trends, more NYC improv stories (Shitzprobe and Story Pirates), we once again bring it back to Warriors, and we beg the question IS IT TIME FOR AN IN THE HEIGHTS REVIVAL YET OR WHAT?!

This week, I'm wrapping up with the spirited and exuberant Vanessa Magula. Vanessa is currently a standby on the Philip tour covering all three Skyler sisters. This conversation has been so fun. Oh my God. Vanessa's one of those people that is not only super fun and easy to talk to, but her joyfulness just permeates every second of the conversation.

Full disclosure, we've been all over the place, so I really hope you've listened to Vanessa's first two episodes. If only to inject some cheer into your life. But all right, here's a quick

recap. She's a self-described theater kid. She studied pre-health at UCLA until she realized she

wanted to be a performer. She dropped everything and moved to New York City to pursue her dream, which also led to a ton of improv experience. She booked Hamilton after being a superfan since

like 2015, and we both really, really love Lynn's Warriors concept album. I mean, that's barely

improv.

But Freestyle Love Supreme has like the Freestyle Love Supreme Academy where you can learn to do what they do.

1:28.8

I know. I think if I hadn't gone on tour,

1:34.5

I would have taken that at the time, like after the pandemic. Because I was like, that sounds sick.

1:40.3

Here's the issue though, is that I'm not like, or at least at the time when I was in my improv peak.

1:47.4

I wasn't like, I wouldn't call rhyming my skill. So therefore like rapping is not, um,

1:53.9

something I thrived at, you know, like I could rhyme something if it's a slow ballad because I'm like thinking of the rhyme very slowly. Um, but yeah, that that's, it's hard. I don't know how you do it without being too predictable.

2:03.8

Like I feel like my issue with rhyming is that it can often just be too obvious.
