Summary

Movie Musical Month continues with an adaptation of a musical that everyone tried to pretend wasn't a musical: MEAN GIRLS (the musical?!) Kat and Jocelyn discuss songs that are additive in the sense that "they are added", messy stars that we know too much about, and wonder whether it's wise to pretend the movie you're marketing isn't a musical (it's not).

the color purple as it was the musical that was adapted to film, all of them had the exact

1:00.7

same problem where they were all made before musical adaptations started performing really

1:06.3

poorly at the box office. And consequently, the marketing decision made with all of them was to basically

1:12.4

pretend that they weren't musicals, which went over, I guess, in varying ways. I think with Wonka,

1:19.1

1:24.5

screenings of the moment the first song started, people going, ugh.

1:28.6

Which makes me feel so bad for the cast and crew.

1:32.3

Because they had known, like, they knew they were making a musical.

1:35.4

They, like, the understanding was, yeah, we're making the musical version of this.
