So I know the X-Men comics occasionally get compared to the Doom Patrol comics, but our

Doom Patrol books as, you know, odd.

I'm mainly an expert in the Silver Age stuff, but yeah, it's weird.

X-Men weird, though?

Well, there was the time the chief fell in love with the villainous Madam Rouge, so he installed a machine in her bedroom

so he could both spy on her, force her to reveal her backstory in her sleep,

and perform brain surgery by laser from across the Atlantic Ocean.

Okay, okay this is promising, tell me more.

And there was the time that some atomic testing created mutants, lowercase

on mutants, decided to bring down Haley's comet upon the earth and while

trying to stop it, robot man and Alaska girl got stuck in a herd of llamas and Beast Boy and Mento fought the abominable snowman for a page and all that

had no bearing on the story or was ever mentioned again.

This is amazing.

Yeah, Arnold Drake, who was the main writer, certainly had some ideas.

Which he even wrote X-Men for a little bit and he brought those ideas to X-Men in the silver age.

One time he had them face off in the X-Mansion

against Blastar, the Living Bomburst.

The Living? That is a hell of a superpower.

It's kind of standard for the negative zone.

Okay, so how'd Blastar get from the negative zone to the ex-mancheon?

Gene was trying a leftover machine of the professors when they all thought he was dead.
