Hello, my name is Justin a clue, and I'm here today with Will Sloan, and you are listening to

0:09.6

the important cinema club. And today, it's finally here. We're doing the best films of 2025.

0:18.2

Yep, dropping this list, two months after everyone else dropped it, after all the critics who go

0:22.8

to the press screenings, who are cramming these movies at the end of November.

0:26.6

As if it matters.

0:27.6

As if like their list will make a difference to elevate or help any of these films released

0:33.5

by major studios.

0:34.6

I don't think they really care about that.

0:35.6

No, they don't.

0:36.6

They care about having a list that is definitive. How many working critics are there today that like their

0:42.7

main job is writing film criticism? I wonder. David Sims at the Atlantic. Yes. What about David

0:48.1

Ehrlich? Is that his main job? It must be right? He's not working at like a temp job in an office

0:54.0

somewhere. Wouldn't it be funny to walk into Subway and see David Erlick? Well, what I would say is, wow, life sucks for all of us, basically. Yeah. It would not be me laughing at him or anything like that. Anyway, this is annually our most listened to episodes, so I'm glad we started it off on a good note. That's right.

1:11.0

A positive note, if you will. So, yeah, the best movies of 2025. What did you think of the year in cinema? I have very little thought about 2025. To the point that looking through lists, I'm like, what movies came out this year? Here's what I think. You know, the big mainstream movies, when you look at what came out at your local multiplex

1:27.8

and you look at one battle after another, sinners, basically those two. Yes. You know, those are probably

1:34.0

the two best ones you saw at your local multiplex. The two, the two that opened at number one. And I

1:39.2

think they were so obviously the best ones of that crop. Am I missing anything? Marty Supreme? And the rest of it, you know, I haven't seen the Minecraft movie. What about Wicked for Good, aka Wicked Part 2? Yeah, what about it? You've seen it? Where does it rank on your list? I have not seen. What? I know. All right, we're shutting this down. I know. I mean, I haven't seen it either, but...

2:02.5

But, you know, here's the thing.

2:03.8

It's like, I look back at this year and I think, seemed a little weak, at least on the mainstream movies front. But then, 20 years from now, I'm going to look back. Oh, these were the good times. Yeah, I'm going to see all these movies that I overlooked or that have have blossomed over time.

2:19.8

Movies that have really blossomed over time.

2:19.8

Movies that have really come into their own have fermented in the bottle.

2:22.9

Like, the naked gun.
