0:17.6	Welcome to the Bible study podcast. I'm your host, Chris Christensen. We were in Matthew 21 when we left our story last week, and Jesus is in the temple. He has been approached by the Pharisees who want to know by what authority he is teaching. He first quizzes them about John the Baptist and whose authority, since they won't answer him, he doesn't answer them whose authority he is doing this. But he tells a story. He tells the
0:41.4	story of a parable of two sons, the son who did what his father wanted even though he said he
0:45.7	wouldn't, and the son who said he wouldn't, but then go ahead and changes his mind. And then he
0:50.7	tells a second parable. Listen to another parable.
0:55.0	There was a landowner who planted a vineyard.
0:57.5	He put a wall around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a watchtower.
1:01.5	Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place.
1:05.7	When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit.
1:10.3	The tenants seized his
1:11.6	servants, they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third. Then he sent other servants to them
1:17.1	more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way. Last of all, he sent his son to them.
1:23.6	They will respect my son, he said. But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other,
1:28.8	"'this is the heir. Come, let's kill him and take his inheritance.
1:32.5	"'So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.
1:36.3	"'Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes,
1:38.4	"'what will he do to those tenants?'
1:40.7	"'He will bring those wretches to a wretched end, they replied, and he will rent the
1:46.3	vineyard to other tenants who will give him his share of the crop at harvest time.
1:52.0	Jesus said to them, have you never read in the scriptures? The stone the builders rejected has
1:57.3	become the cornerstone. The Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.
2:02.8	Therefore, I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.
