North Shore photographer Mike Prickett is a two-time Emmy Award-winning director of photography

that the surf world is lucky to claim as brethren. It's impossible to imagine what surf media

would look like without Mike's decades of contributions.

And I could sit here and list all the credits.

There's 20 plus years of shooting competition for the ASP.

Surf documentaries like Step Into Liquid, Riding Giants, Bilibong Odyssey, feature films like X-Men

2, Soul Surfer and Chasing Mavericks, but those credits only acknowledge Mike's camera work.

They don't account for Mike's influence and innovations in the space, contributions to the craft that create best practices for safer ocean cinematography,

improved rigs and methods, dynamic fresh angles, through each phase of his career and perhaps

each individual project, Mike has innovated and improvised solutions for ocean cinematography.

When Hollywood wants to shoot something water related, they rely on him.

So we'll get into some of that through this conversation.

But what's most impressive about this story is that both his entry into photography and

the reinvention of this last decade of his career were the results of two different,

very near death accidents wherein doctors told him that he may

never walk again. Mike's work and his life is lived pushing the limits, pursuing his passion

without perceived boundaries, and redefining expectations. Mike's production company, Salt and Air

Studios, was also responsible for streaming

last month's Eddie ICal Big Wave Invitational, the historic day that it ran, and then they even

live streamed the free surf two weeks prior when the event didn't run, and they did that via

Surf Lines platform. So that's where we're going to enter this conversation.
