writer and author Ian Gervitz about writing under any circumstances. You know, there was also

something in my head about the juxtaposition of trying to write an episode for a TV comedy

while my mother's in the other room dying. So I sat there blasting through a first draft, patting myself on the back for being so professional

that I could fulfill my responsibilities no matter what was happening. On another, I was probably

compartmentalizing what was going on. You know, but there we were as adults going through a life-changing moment.

So under the circumstances, I had all

these emotions that I could put into the scene.

So it must have turned out to be an amazing scene, right?

I remember one time as writer came in late during the rewriting his episode, he asked what

was going on, somebody said, we've taken out your crappy jokes and putting in good ones.

Wow, television writing is brutal.
