Summary

Thru-Hiking the Northville Placid Trail in the Adirondacks with Jacob Ireland Jacob Ireland recently completed a thru-hike of the Northville Placid Trail in the Adirondacks, and was kind enough to reflect on his experience with me this week. I also attempted the Northville Placid Trail a few years ago, and through that experience I discovered how tough of a trail the NPT really is. Though Jacob certainly does not regret his experience on the Northville Placid Trail, he expressed his mixed feelings about it on this episode. We talk about why he felt a bit underwhelmed by the trail, and also cover the positive aspects of the Northville Placid Trail (lakes, lakes, and more lakes)! It's always a treat to talk about the Adirondacks. Like what you hear? Want to talk some smack? How's it going, everybody? You're listening to Trail Tales. My name is Kyle O'Grady. I'm a through hiker. I'm a

0:15.9

peak bagger. I love to just kind of mess around in the woods. And this is the podcast where I chat with other through hikers.

0:22.9

I chat with other peak baggers and other hikers about their experiences on the trail.

0:28.5

If you are one of those things, if you're a through hiker, a peak bagger, a hiker, whatever it is,

0:33.9

or if you're aspiring to be any of those things, I encourage you to subscribe to the show

0:38.5

and listen to some older episodes if you have not done so already. This week's guest is a man

0:44.7

named Jacob Ireland. He's done a bunch of cool through hikes, but this episode is mostly

0:50.3

focused on his through hike of the Northville Placet Trail. So some of you might recall way, way back I did another episode on this trail in the Adirondacks.

1:01.0

It's a relatively short trail.

1:04.0

It's pretty flat, but I'm telling you people, this trail is no joke.

1:09.0

This trail is kind of a beast and it's pretty

1:11.1

damn difficult so we talk all about that now part of the reason why I wanted Jacob to come

1:17.2

on the show is because I'd seen some comments he made on Instagram shortly after his

1:21.6

through hike talking about how I believe the term he used was on underwhelmed he felt like

1:26.6

he was kind of underwhelmed by this trail after he was done.

1:30.3

And I thought that was kind of interesting. Some of you might know that I attempted this trail like four years ago and didn't quite finish it.

1:38.3

So I'm at least familiar with it and I honestly just wanted to get his thoughts on this trail because like I said, it is pretty damn difficult.

1:46.1

Jacob was super honest about it.

1:48.0

And I hate to say it, but we do kind of cover the bad, I guess, parts of this trail or aspects of through hiking this trail.

1:58.4

Like pretty in depth, like even more than we cover the good parts

2:01.7

of this trail. However, I mean, like I just said a second ago, like I felt like we kind

2:07.6

had to put it out there. It would be really easy for Jacob to come on this show and just hype
