Summary
What goes up must come down - but in Europe, nothing comes back from space. That’s the problem Sebastian Klaus, co-founder & CEO of Atmos Space Cargo, set out to solve.
After a career that spanned aerospace engineering, special forces missions, and a commercial pilot’s license, Sebastian is now leading a team building reentry capsules with inflatable heat shields - a technology that sounds like sci-fi but is already flying.
Atmos aims to return anything from orbit: biomedicine experiments, 3D-printed tissues, semiconductors, quantum materials , even strategic supplies. With a successful first flight under their belt, they’re positioning themselves as Europe’s answer to Dragon and Starship, but with a lighter, modular approach.
In this episode, we cover:🛰️ Why Europe’s lack of reusable spacecraft is a strategic weakness🔥 How inflatable heat shields could reshape reentry tech🌍 Civil applications: biomedicine, semiconductors, materials made in orbit⚔️ Dual-use vision: from rapid relief to rapid defense💡 The future: daily launches, in-space industry, and orbital data centers

| 0:00.0 | And number two is we use what we call an air breathing system. |
| 0:05.5 | So as soon as we are inside the atmosphere, we use little electrically powered turbines |
| 0:11.5 | to suck air from the atmosphere inside of the heat shield to keep it inflated. |
| 0:16.7 | It's really science fiction. |
| 0:17.9 | Yeah, it is. It is. |
| 0:19.8 | Yeah, for sure. |

| 0:25.7 | So what our goal is really to have, like, |
| 0:28.4 | the most lightweight reentry system out there, like in the world. |
| 0:35.6 | All right, yeah, lift up, the clock is turned. Three, speed, lift-off. The clock is started. |
| 0:38.6 | We need a lift-off, we have a lift-off, we have a lift-off, where we discuss newspace technology, finance, and innovation executors, founders, and more exciting people from the startup and new space ecosystem. I'm Sam Shivara. And I'm Danny Seidel, and together we are the founders of the Earth Subsperation Company, Live Here and New Space Vision. Today's guest is Sebastian Klaus, co-founder and CEO of Atmospace Cargo, who are building capsules for research in space, as well as technology that enabled safe re-entry from space. Welcome to the show, Sebastian. Thanks for having me. So, Sven, you actually, as an intro, have a special story to tell about the topic, correct? Yep, that's correct. When researching, obviously, I see ahead of the podcast, and obviously looking up what you guys are doing and I've come across |

| 1:31.0 | I remember that I had a book in my bookshelf, which is a book from 1964. |
| 1:35.5 | One of my hobbies, 1967, one of my hobbies is collecting old space books and book about the |
