This week on the podcast, I want to teach you about the microbiome and how it contributes to healthy, beautiful skin.

What is a microbiome? The microbiome is the normal natural flora of bacteria that lives symbiotically on the skin surface.

That is the term for the trillions and trillions of bugs, fungus, yeast that live on the surface

of our skin. And the species of bacteria that live on your skin within your bloodstream, in your gut, in your body,

these vary depending on the location, the amount of light, your skin type, whether you're oily,

dry, moist, hairy, your skin biome is a very individualized thing. Those of us that have the

healthiest skin and the most wonderful aging process, healthy aging adults, when we look at the things that make them live longer potentially, one of the most important things is the diverse variability of their gut microbiome. So people who have a varied diet, people who take a lot of prebiotic, probiotic,

antioxidant-rich, vegetative, vegetarian foods tend to have the healthiest microbiome.

And these are people who live into their hundreds. So they've done a few studies that

centarians living to be 100 and beyond. What makes them different from the average adult?

The average adult who does not live quite so long has a diet more rich in carbohydrates,

sugars, and foods that are not as healthy, highly saturated fats, hydrogenated oils.

Those adults who live into their hundreds have a varied microbiome that thrives on the fruits
